Over the last several days, forward looking cities like (Miami), countries (Estonia and Colombia), and companies (Square) have decided to host the Bitcoin white paper on their websites. Inspired by Balaji Srinivasan, we’re adding ourselves to that list of entities or organisations committed to decentralising the hosting of Satoshi’s White Paper.
Nkwashi is part of an emergent community working towards building its own blockchain project, Taji. This project will be built atop the Ethereum Network. However, in as much as our proposed Taji project will not be feasible without Ethereum; it (Ethereum) would not be possible without Bitcoin blazing the way first.
What is Bitcoin?
As the White Paper’s abstract says, Bitcoin is a purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash that allows online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution. Bitcoin represents a natural evolution of the financial system that humanity has been building over several millennia. Removing the need for intermediaries in the transfer, holding or settlement of value.
Bitcoin went live in 2009, and has since grown from a market cap of 0 to >US$600 billion, inspiring the creation of many more blockchain projects along the way. The crypto ecosystem now has an aggregate value >US$900 billion. None of this would be possible without Bitcoin having been invented. It’s still early days for this ecosystem, but we believe it represents a great opportunity for the global south to leap-frog into the future.
We embrace that future!
